An Exploration in MAS Scalability

چکیده

Naming and capability-mediated services, such as Agent Name Services and middle agents, perform a fundamental task in the Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) infrastructures, because they allow agents to find each other and interoperate. Because of their importance in the MAS, the scalability of naming and capability-mediation services is crucial to guarantee the overall scalability of the MAS. Surprisingly though, while MAS infrastructure has received a fair amount of attention, the quantitative evaluation of infrastructure components has been lacking. In this paper, we present an experimental evaluation of the agent name services and the capability-mediation used by the RETSINA infrastructure. In addition, we perform experimental comparisons of the same services offered by the CoABS GRID that utilizes Sun’s . This evaluation is used as a framework to discuss evaluation metrics, design issues for agent naming and discovery services, and to provide suggestions for improvements of these services. 1.

Dynamic configuration and collaborative scheduling in supply chains based on scalable multi-agent architecture

Due to diversified and frequently changing demands from customers, technological advances and global competition, manufacturers rely on collaboration with their business partners to share costs, risks and expertise. How to take advantage of advancement of technologies to effectively support operations and create competitive advantage is critical for manufacturers to survive. To respond to these...

Formal Specification of Substitutability Property for Fault-Tolerance in Reactive Autonomic Systems

Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) have been widely proposed and applied to various application domains, where traditional approaches are impractical, such as space exploration missions. MAS can offer greater redundancy, efficiency, and scalability; however, they also raise new challenges, such as complex and often unexpected emergent group behavior, which require a formal specification as well as verif...

Nature-Inspired Multi-Agent Coordination in Task Assignment Problems

The main problem when using multi-agent systems (MAS) for task assignment problems in real-world environments is the limited scalability of traditional MAS approaches such as centralized planning. Therefore, we look at a scalable, generic methodology inspired by nature for multi-agent coordination in large, embodied MAS, operating in noisy, real-time environments. More specifically, we look at ...

The stability, scalability and performance of multi-agent systems

Much has been published on the functional properties of multi-agent systems (MASs) including their co-ordination, rationality and knowledge modelling. However, an important research area which has so far received only scant attention covers the non-functional properties of MASs which include performance, scalability and stability issues — clearly these become increasingly important as the MAS f...

Toward Systemic MAS Development: Enforcing Decentralized Self-organization by Composition and Refinement of Archetype Dynamics

The utilization of self-organizing processes promises scalability, robustness and adaptivity in Multi-Agent Systems (MAS), solely based on decentralized coordination of individual actors. Bionic development approaches are being established, which reuse decentralized coordination mechanisms that are derived from natural self–organizing systems. In this paper, we address analysis activities in in...
